Speaker: Shrikant Chaphekar, Principal Quality Consultant, TechMahindra

Over 22 years of IT Industry experience – having played major roles in PMO and IT Quality Management apart from mainstream Application Development / Maintenance Projects execution. In the last more than eight years Shrikant has successfully led a number of initiatives for major customer and was instrumental in designing and implementation of tools for business operations. As, Principal Quality Consultant, has responsibility to contribute to major quality initiatives organization wide.

 

Topic: Estimation Techniques for Application Support Projects

IT Industry is matured over last forty years; As result of this ‘Application Support’ has become critical area as over 50% of the applications across the globe are under maintenance support/enhancement. In recent years IT budget cuts for industries across the globe combined with business agility compels organizations (Clients as well as Suppliers) to opt for technical and economically viable solutions. This compels s/w consultancy organizations to estimate work under ‘maintenance support’ using appropriate techniques. Our experience of using framework has enabled us to manage successfully large number of  ‘support’ projects/programs for last few years

 

Speaker: Dhananjay Bhole, Accessibility Technologies Group, University of Pune

Mr. Dhananjay Bhole was recently honored with a National role model award for 2011. The award is given each year by the Government of India to eminent persons with disabilities who have done exemplary work in their field and in life against all odds. He is also honored with a vocational excellence award 2010 by Rotary club of Poona Down-Town.

Dhananjay has been visually challenged by birth. He completed his Bachelors’ degree in Science with botany as a major subject, from North Maharashtra University and his Masters in Science with bioinformatics as specialization from University of Pune. This achievement is unique in Asia for persons with visual disabilities. He also completed his MBA degree in human resource management from Department of Management studies, North Maharashtra University.

As a coordinator, Mr. Dhananjay Bhole played a key role in establishing the Blind Student’s Learning Centre at University of Pune which is a support service centre for visually challenged. He has undertaken several projects for the facilitation of education of visually challenged. He initiated an assistive technology training program, accessibility research program and placement cell for persons with disabilities at university of Pune. He set up a digital library and a special computer lab with advanced assistive technologies at the centre and developed research facilities for educational accessibility.

Mr. Bhole is working as an access technology consultant for several educational institutions, corporate, Government and non Government organizations in India. He has also authored several research papers in the area of accessible computing.

He is a member of professional organizations like association of computing machinery, IEEE computer society, international society for computational biology, computer society of India, free software foundation of India and NASSCOM immerge community. He is actively engaged in sensitizing people around about various accessibility related issues of persons with disabilities.

Topic: Accessibility Technologies Awareness Session

Presentation objective is to spread awareness to various stakeholders like computer science and engineering students, web developers, project managers, policy makers in government, industries and academia so that they incorporate the essential features and functions when they develop web applications, cloud applications and mobile applications or desktop applications to make them accessible for 6 percent disabled population of this country and bridge the digital void.

 

The lecture will briefly cover what is accessibility, how persons with disabilities use computational services, demonstration of assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, accessibility pitfalls, various accessibility standards and regulations, accessibility myths, implementation of accessibility standards and regulations in products and services, benefits of accessibility compliance, business case for web accessibility etc.

Monthly seminar is FREE FOR ALL / NO Entry FEE; one does not have to be Pune Chapter member to attend this seminar.
